Turnstone Ecology’s directors have been undertaking bird surveys for over twenty years. They have ornithological experience of working for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), RSPB, Bird Observatories Council and Natural England and have contributed to a number of research publications. This survey experience gives the company the ability to provide knowledgeable and professional ornithological consultancy for a diverse range of clients.

The company can undertake a range of ornithological surveys including three visit and full breeding bird surveys and wetland bird surveys all based on BTO methodology, species specific survey (Peregrine Falcon, Common Kingfisher, Barn Owl and Black Redstart) and vantage point (VP) surveys for wind farms.

Surveys include: VP surveys at proposed windfarms across the UK from Orkney to Somerset, including Cheshire, Northumberland, Anglesey, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Lincolnshire and breeding/wintering bird surveys in Pembrokeshire, Nottinghamshire and Buckinghamshire.

Turnstone Ecology have the capabilities and experience to complete wintering, passage and breeding bird population impact assessments and full collision risk assessments (CRA) for wind farms and large scale transmission line projects.

Projects include: EIA for Frodsham wind farm, CRAs for wind farms across the UK and impact assessments for large scale housing developments

Research

Turnstone Ecology have the staff, experience and low costs to be able to complete cost-effective ornithological research projects both in the UK and overseas. Ornithological research projects staff have been involved with include A Review of Bird SSSI’s for Natural England and A Population Assessment of Breeding Birds on Salisbury Plain for the MOD and RSPB.
